Hypes picked up the
guitar at age 15, learned the basics from his father, took lessons from
Dave Collins, and quickly realized that he wanted to write original
music. Hypes grew up in Connecticut before he took a trip South to
attend the University of Georgia. It was during his college years when
he began to take music seriously. Song writing was a perfect excuse not
to study, and a way to express his thoughts and feelings about life,
girls, having fun and dealing with adversity. Hypes, a founding member
of StraddleDaddy, draws inspiration from Beck, the Dead Milkmen, and
Toots and the Maytals.
“A good song is
reason to celebrate.”
