Lyrics penned on
yellow paper in middle school could have foreshadowed Syme’s future role
as a flowmaster, but it wasn’t until years later when the band
StraddleDaddy plugged in and went funked out that his position as a
moxie-rocker was solidified.
There’s little doubt
that the kid can’t sing, but his unique rap style, coupled with a
high-energy stage presence honed with years of performing, make his
nasal twine a stellar compliment to his former EPLT co-mc and
StraddleDaddy lead vocalist Hypes.
Syme, a crowd
favorite formerly known as Chris Symington, brings special flava to a
band that through uncanny chemistry refuses to be categorized or defined
in any music genre.
His influences range
from G. Love to James Brown, and it shows in his dancing and patented
(if not stolen from the King himself) “Hi-Ya!” Be careful in the front
row, just as he tries to sing but knowingly can’t, a complete lack of
karate class-experience never kept him from attempting the occasional
roundhouse kick.
Simply, Syme rocks
like no other, for better or worse.
